The Cocoon Child definition of ‘cherish’ is not just to love, but to be thankful for, grateful for and appreciate so greatly that you hold it close to your heart.
They say that gratitude is a key to happiness and by learning to be thankful for things children can become sensitive to the feelings of others and begin to develop empathy, which has to be one of the best learnings in life. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Whether it be a person, a memory, a thing, an experience, a moment, a relationship, our health, life, happiness, freedom – to love something and to be thankful for it is a virtue we would love to inspire in our children, to help them to grow into their best selves.
‘It’s something we have to teach our kids. Model for them and let them know the world doesn’t OWE anyone anything — and that we all have to do our part to make it a better place. Help kids learn to appreciate their first-world circumstances, (without lecturing about starving kids in Third World countries). When you practice daily gratitude, appreciate what you have, actively seek to do random acts of kindness, and find opportunities to help others — you are helping to set your children and your family on the path to a much more rewarding life’. ⠀
But it is a tough one and a huge one and something that certainly can’t be taught over night. In many ways it only really develops over time, with a little life experience and knowing what it is to lose something.
In the style of these fantastic kids t-shirts from American brand The Bee and the Fox we find loving your mother is a good place to start! Or if not your mother that person in your life that helps to guide and love you unconditionally, someone you should be very grateful for if you are lucky enough to have.
We also think it’s pretty important to find your tribe and love them hard, something Sunday Soldiers are all about with their cool blue unisex sweatshirt.
Whoever or whatever it is we hope you find that someone or something that makes your heart go boom, boom, boom…
